New award goes to Iran’s ‘Am I a Wolf?’

Iran’s animated short ‘Am I a Wolf?’ is awarded at the Indie-AniFest - Korea Independent Animation Film Festival in South Korea.

Iran’s animated short ‘Am I a Wolf?’ has been awarded at the Indie-AniFest - Korea Independent Animation Film Festival in South Korea.

Directed by Amir-Houshang Moeen, ‘Am I a Wolf?’ won the Grand Prize “Light of ASIA” at the 15th edition of the South Korean event.

“This film is presented with a very high degree of animation performance, successfully invoking life through its movements and reaching beyond the more easily achieved illustration of actions. The narrative of the story is beautifully woven between the parallel of outer and inner realities,” the festival’s jury said.

Based on a fantasy book by Afsaneh Shabannejad, the animation is a recreation of the classic fable of ‘The Wolf and the Lamb’.

It tells the story of some students who are performing a theater called 'The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats'. Everybody has a role. They are totally getting carried away by their roles in a way that the border between reality and theatrical performance is now hardly realized.

Meanwhile, the child acting as the wolf in the story is scripted to be defeated. That makes him feel lonely and annoyed. As he takes his role too serious, a bit of chaos startles the group. In the end, the presence of other children and his friends take him out of the mood.

Organized by the Korean Independent Animation Filmmakers' Association (KIAFA), the Indie-AniFest presents spectacular independent animated films from Korea and Asia.

The Indie-AniFest is the only film festival in Korea specializing in independent animations. It now aims to become the world’s only Asian animation film festival.

The festival was held in Seoul on September 19-24, 2019.
